Project Description
Designing and Implementing secure, resilient networked and distributed information and control process systems demands advanced testing procedures from the early beginning of the system development life cycle, i.e. the requirement specification, up to the penetration and security testing of the system before its deployment. In particular large, distributed communication systems that are related to critical infrastructures like banking and finance, power supply and law enforcement need to be stress-tested under simulated real-world conditions. Security experts from industrial and governmental institutions in Norway have recognized these demands and aim to establish an Information Security Test Center (ISTCenter) in the Gjøvik area. In order to demonstrate the potential of such a facility for the first time, a showcase shall be implemented at NISlab, HiG.
The objective of the proposed bachelor project is to work towards a concept for an ISTCenter and to demonstrate potential testing scenarios in small scale laboratory. Expected outcome of this student project is a report that can serve as a basis for a more detailed marked study and requirement specification for an IST-center. Questions addressed are for example:
- Who are the target users groups?
- Which products and services should be offer?
- Which resources are required to establish and to run the center?
In addition to the concept, a small demonstrator shall be realized that shows the envisaged operations in a testing scenario, e.g. in case of a penetration testing of a company’s web portal.
The bachelor project will be conducted in close cooperation with the NISlab team members, representatives from Security Valley and an external industrial partner.
